English Theatre for Luedertal Students

A play performed in English for secondary school students?  The production TNT Theatre Britain has created a play based on a true story: The Wave, a novel by Morton Rhue. This play was seen by the Luedertal students of grade 10.

On February 16, 2023, the 10th grade students set out for the Schlosstheater in Fulda. They went by train and arrived at the station at about 8:35am. At 9:30, after a breakfast in town, the teachers Mrs Meisel, Mrs Kostler und Mr Kollmann accompanied their respective classes to the theatre and got the tickets for everyone. The students in each class were very excited to see the play. However, there were also some who were afraid that they would not understand what was going to be said. After everyone had taken their seats, the performance began. As mentioned earlier, “The Wave” is based on a true incident from 1969, when a teacher at an American high school attempted to demonstrate to his class how the Third Reich could come into being. The experiment seemed to go well at first, but quickly escalated when students became violent toward students who disagreed with The Wave. Attending this play was a thought-provoking yet enjoyable experience for many students. A student in grade R10a said “This play was very cool! The singing was great and the English was very easy to understand!” Another student from grade R10b said “I’m not very good at speaking or understanding English. The visuals of the play really helped though and all in all it was enjoyable.”

In conclusion, the play was entertaining while warning about the dangers of fascism. This was a successful field trip as it showed each student the extent to which they truly understand the English language.
